Stereotypes

The major effects stereotypes have is that it drastically alters our way of thinking towards a particular group of people (be it a good or a bad thing), conceivably create inequality between groups of people, limits people's opportunities and freedom, and lastly places pressure on people. Some examples of these effects on people, is the inequality between men and women in history. By now, we all should recognize that even in modern society there's inequality between men and women - which is partially established by gender stereotypes. Because of gender stereotypes both gender's opportunities and freedom are constrained, and the two genders are expected to do certain things in a specific manner. Few of these gender stereotypes, is that women are supposedly "submissive and cry a lot" and that men are the "dominant and rarely cries". This obviously isn't the case, as a huge group of people can't be described with unreasonable over-generalized statements.
Due to my personal beliefs, the types of stereotypes with the most substantial impact on people, are racial/ethnic stereotypes. We all live in the same world, and we all need to learn how to live together peacefully, but one of the  hundreds of things keeping us from doing exactly that, are ethnic stereotypes. Ethnic stereotypes creates divisions, distrust, misunderstanding, and fear amongst everybody. Take for example the description President Donald Trump has towards Mexicans:
"When Mexico send their people, their not sending their best. Theyre sending people with lots of problems... They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists."
This statement is absolutely baffling, untrue, so racist and stereotypical - and an example of racial stereotypes that is more on the intense side. All in all, racial stereotypes has the biggest impact, because it creates unneeded tension between large groups of people all over the world, and can possibly generate huge political conflicts.

  1. Thank you for your response. Why do you think that racial stereotypes have more of an impact than gender stereotypes? When you quote the words of another person, you need to site the source of the quote, not merely mention who said it. You have some issues with verb tenses, such as subject verb agreement.
