Language and Bias in "Armor Of Light" Trailer

The trailer of "Armor of Light" a documentary produced by Fork Films, discusses about gun control in America and why people should be against it. The bias in this trailer, is saying that without guns we would not be able to protect ourseslves from harm, as the "only thing that's gonna stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun".

HOW IS LANGUAGE USED TO CONVEY EMOTION?
The main ways language can be used to convey emotions in the trailer, is noting how a person says something, the tone of their voice and their action/reactions they give towards what they were saying. During the interview with the mother whose son passed away due to bullets from a gun, we notice that she stutters and stops when she says "but I never thought it would ever happen to us".  As she recalls the tragic event, the way she says this, how she says this and the actions she gives towards saying this-- such as stuttering, talking in a small, quiet voice and pausing for a bit before continuing her sentence, conveys the emotion of sadness and despair. Overall, the tone, the way a person says something and the actions/reactions a person has towards saying something, all conveys emotions.

HOW IS LANGUAGE USED TO EVOKE EMOTION?
Not only does the interview with the mom whose son passed away conveys emotion it also evokes emotion. To evoke something is to recall or bring something to the conscious mind. When the interview began and the mom started implying that her son got shot and was injured because of a gun, it evokes emotions from the audience-- which is most likely to be either sympathy towards the mom, or sadness because her son got injured from gunshots. In this case, the trailer for "Armor of Light", takes advantage of devastating or dreadful stories to evoke emotions from the audience. This can also be used as a technique to get them, the audience, to 'be on their side' and get them to think the way they think, as it shows real tragic events that happened which causes them to think they way they think.

HOW IS LANGUAGE USED TO CONVEY AN ARGUMENT (BIAS)?
In the context of the "Armor of Light" trailer, they 2 methods of language to convey their bias to the audience. The first way is including stories, interviews, or words from people who either think the same way they (the people making the documentary) do-- or in other words have the same bias that the trial does. The second way is by only telling only 'one side of the story'. Meaning that the trailer only includes footage, information, interviews, etc. that only shows reasons of why people should be against gun control. When watching the trailer, I've noticed that most of the things that were talked about, were either reasons why people should be against it, interviews or stories that prove their point (that we should be against gun control). Generally, they talked of nothing related to why gun control should be something people support, and only includes things that supports their bias. The trailer itself is most likely structured this way to influence and affect others so that they have the same bias the trailer conveys.

HOW IS LANGUAGE USED TO CONVEY THE MESSAGE FOR THE PURPOSE?
The message of the trailer is that people should not support gun control as it would be able to protect us in times of danger, and the purpose of the trailer, is to influence others to have the same bias. In order for the trailer to convey that message for its' purpose, the trailer itself only included a very subjective view of gun control in America. They did this by only showing things (such as interviews) that supports their bias (which is that they are against gun control), and does not present or say anything in the video in regards to why people should support it instead. And they convey this message to the audience in a very non-hesitant, and slightly aggressive manner, to the point where this trailer conveys their bias in almost 'right in your face' way. We can hear this kind of aggressive tone in the beginning of the trailer, when a man unhesitantly said that "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun".
