Application - Imagery and Setting

The hum of electricity rumbled throughout my house-- you could have easily mistaken it as silence, but if you listen closely, you'll be able to hear the mechanical whirs of an air conditioner being used. You could even hear the wind it blows out if you try hard enough; the air itself seemed to sound like the waves of an ocean overlapping each other from far away-- constantly turning over and over, repeating itself and always being present.
Outside, it almost felt quiet. Everything was dark, but one could still make out the outlines of neighboring houses. The long verticle line that shaped the walls of the house, and the sharp angles that shaped the houses' roof. Everything was dark, but there was an area where a small luminescent white glow cascaded onto the ground, banishing the shadows. There was a tree, not far from my house, that grew until it reached the houses' rooftops, as it was Jack's infamous beanstalk-- though it really seemed as if it was leisurely climbing the house instead.
Breathe in deeply, and the cool air will come rushing into your nostrils and will refresh your lungs with new air. It was raining just a few minutes ago.
You could hear a hum radiating from a choir of crickets and grasshoppers. You'd wonder where those crickets and grasshoppers were, as the sound seems to fill up the night from all angles and from all directions. How strange that such small insects would be able to do that.
